You will be picked up from your Hotel in Hikkaduwa in the morning (after breakfast) and the first stop will be the Moonstone Mine in Meetiyagoda, a village near Ambalangoda, concentrated within an acre of land. believed to have been blessed by the moon. The mysterious gem, as captivating as the full moon gleaming in the night sky, is considered sacred and has been used in jewelry for centuries. The most sought after moonstones have a haunting blue sheen, an effect produced by the orthoclase feldspar, which is found almost exclusively in the gem mines of Sri Lanka. Here, you can even go down into the deep, narrow shafts from which the stones are mined and witness the process yourself. Also you can buy those beautifully hand crafted jewelry at their shop on site.

After learning about moonstone the next stop will be the Turtle Hatchery, where you can see all sizes of turtles, Turtles are the top on the endangered list all around the world. There are all together seven turtle species have listed up to now, five species are presenting in Sri Lanka coastal area. You will not regret this visit and it will be a memory for lifetime where you will learn so many things about these beautiful Turtles.

The Final stop in this trip will be in Balapitiya, where you get to experience a Boat Safari in the Madu River, the estuary of the Madu Ganga river is a complex coastal ecosystem of mangroves and islands. It may be one of the last remaining tracts of pristine mangrove forests in Sri Lanka. A boat trip is a wonderful way of seeing some of the hundreds of species of plants and animals – monkeys eat fruit in the trees, a water monitor lizard glides slowly through the water, and cormorants, egrets and kingfishers wait patiently on the banks, eyeing the water for prey. You will also be visiting an ancient Buddhist temple situated in one of an island, after the river safari you will be transferred back to your Hotel in Hikkaduwa.
