This crescent shaped bay located at the edge of the southern tip of the island is an appealing beach to experience some of the most spectacular sunset views. Along with a string of modest guest houses and cafes, the vibes of this area attracts many backpackers to enjoy a time away from all the city rush.
One of the main tourist attractions in Mirissa is the development in Whales Watching, thereby making Sri Lanka a favourable destination to experience blue and sperm whales close to shore. These majestic creatures can be spotted by a boat trip slightly off shore on its cetacean migratory routes during the season of December/January and April. There are also chances of witnessing spinner dolphins on this trip making it a very exciting one.
It may not be the most ideal part of the island to swim due to varying conditions along distinct parts of the beach, however many water sport activities such as snorkelling safaris and sea kayaking can be arranged, it is also quite the surfers point down south.
